As TikTok faces possible U.S. ban, users reflect with heartfelt videos and humor
TikTok could be banned in the United States within the next week. TikTokkers, as you might expect, are responding with a bunch of jokes and some sentimental videos.
If you weren’t aware, TikTok could be banned in the United States starting Sunday, barring an intervention from the Supreme Court or some other delay. It may not immediately disappear from phones in the short term, but it would likely be removed from app stores and stop receiving updates. In the long term, TikTok’s future in the U.S. is quite unclear.
The potential for TikTok to ultimately disappear has folks on the app reflecting. For instance, many people are making sentimental, yearbook-style posts that collect some of their favorite moments from the app.
Others are making jokes. Perhaps chief among them are posts about saying goodbye to one’s “Chinese spy,” since TikTok is being banned because lawmakers claim China could use the platform in nefarious ways against Americans.
Some people, including the guy who started the Pinegrove shuffle trend, have begun reposting some of their more popular TikToks.
So, yes, TikTok could soon disappear. But at least for now, we still have the memories.
