Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have arrived: Preorders start on Sept. 13
UPDATE: Sep. 9, 2024, 4:32 p.m. EDT This article has been updated with more info on what’s new with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
Another September is here, which means it’s time for the weather to cool down and Apple to release a new iPhone. Though the temperatures may be taking a moment to drop, the fruit brand is right on time with its Sept. 9 event, “It’s Glowtime.”
At the event, Apple announced updates to the entire iPhone line, including a new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Pro line is getting a host of new features like larger displays, a new A18 Pro chip, improved battery life, new colorways, a 48-megapixel camera, and photo and video capabilities truly built for professionals.
Better yet, they’re available for preorder starting on Friday, Sept. 13, and will become available on Sept. 20. The iPhone 16 Pro will start at $ 999, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will start at $ 1,199, keeping in line with the pricing from the iPhone 15 Pro line.
Where to pre-order the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
Preorders won’t be available until this Friday, Sept. 13. We’ll be sure to update this post when they become available, but if you want to take a closer look early, the Apple listing for the phones is already live.
What’s new with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
As we mentioned above, Apple gave the Pro line a few major upgrades, including:
Larger display size: The 16 Pro gets a 6.3-inch display up from the 15 Pro’s 6.1 inches, while the 16 Pro Max gets a 6.9-inch display up from the 15 Pro Max’s 6.7-inch display
New chip: The Pro line is equipped with the new A18 Pro chip, which Apple claims is 20 percent faster than the previous generation
Upgraded camera: The Pro phones come with a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera
Better battery life: The 16 Pro Max comes with a battery Apple says can get up to 33 hours of video playback, offering “the best battery life on iPhone ever.” When we reviewed the 15 Pro Max, we also found it had a battery life of a day and some hours, so we’ll see how the two stack up during testing.
Apple Intelligence integration: Siri is more sophisticated, following user context and taking text and voice commands.
New creative features: A new Camera Control button allows for easy photo and video access, with future updates to add more capabilities to the button. The camera can now capture spatial photos and videos and 4K video at 120 frames per second. Plus, users can color grade directly from their phone. Four new studio-quality mics on the device also allow for new audio editing with Audio Mix, as well as the ability to record spatial audio.
New colorway: Apple swapped the 15 Pro’s blue titanium color for the 16 Pro’s desert titanium.
