Unionized Apple Store workers in Oklahoma secure tentative agreement

A look into an Apple store window.

After two years, unionized Apple Store workers in Oklahoma finally reached a tentative agreement with the tech company on Friday.

The tentative agreement guarantees a wage increase of up to 11.5 percent over three years, paid time off, and job protection. Workers at the Penn Square Mall Apple Store voted to form a union with Communication Workers of America (CWA) in 2022. It’s the second Apple Store to unionize.

“Today, my 80 coworkers and I have just secured a tentative agreement with the world’s most profitable corporation. For more than a year, we stood strong at the bargaining table because we knew that by standing together we could secure the pay raises, protections, and benefits we deserve,” said Kirsten Matson, a member of the Apple Retail Union-CWA in a press release. “It’s thanks to our work that Apple retail stores are the most profitable retail stores per square foot across any industry—and we finally have an agreement that will ensure we earn our fair share for our work.”

The Towson Town Center Apple Store workers in Maryland became the first Apple Store to unionize in 2022. At the time there was a flurry of unionizing among workers in the tech industry with workers at both the Grand Central Apple Store in New York City and Cumberland Mall Apple Store outside of Atlanta making moves to unionize. But only the Oklahoma and Maryland stores ultimately unionized.
